With the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro already making the mark for the first half of 2020 with the blazing fast flagship processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and upto 12GB RAM, it's about time we discuss about the OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro. Just last week , Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 865+ chipset which officially is the first mobile processor to cross the 3 GHz barrier. So, far 2 gaming phones ASUS Rog Phone 3 and Lenovo Legion have officially confirmed they would be packing the Snapdragon 865+. Samsung Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra are also rumored to pack Snapdragon 865+ (in US/China) and Exynos 990 (in Europe/Rest of Asia). OnePlust 8T is expected to pack the Snapdragon 865+ too as is the trend with 'T' series it usually launches in the 2nd half of the year. Now, that we have covered the main highlight let's see what else can we expect to change in OnePlus 8T or 8T Pro.
Let's address the elephant in the room - Shall we ? Cameras! OnePlus 8 packed the 48MP (wide) + 48MP (Ultra Wide) + 8MP(telephoto) + 5MP (Color filter) sensor combination. For the 8T we should be seeing a slight change in the resolution - 64 MP(wide) + 48MP(Ultra Wide) + 16MP(Telephoto with 5x zoom ) + 5MP(Color Filter). I really hope OnePlus doesn't mess up with the color filter sensor. As is seen in the previous year, OnePlus usually upgrades the camera performance compared to the predecessor with better software optimizations. The Selfie Camera however is expected to stay put at 16MP Ultra Wide. Next, we shall go over the performance. The Snapdragon 865+ is expected to bolt up the performance by 10% easily which would mean it could cross the 650,000 Geekbench score. The Apple iPhone 12 is expected to launch around the same time with their 5nm A14 Chip and I can only imagine the benchmark score it would record. The Snapdragon 875 which has been rumored to be manufactured with 5nm would be the ideal comparison for the A14 Bionic chip though. But, the Snapdragon 865+ would still be close enough thanks to it's 3.1 GHz Processor and 12GB (or 16GB) RAM with UFS 3.2 Support.
Coming to design, we have seen that OnePlus has adopted the design from OnePlus 7T for the OnePlus 8 except for few finishing modifications. I think the design would remain more or less the same and don't expect radical design changes as such for the OnePlus 8T. What would change is the rear side for the camera setup - which I think could go either Circular or Galaxy S20 esque style. The display element would still maintain its quality if not improve it further in size ,but the 120 Hz is definitely a yes with in screen finger print scanner. The battery size would hover around between 4200 Mah - 4500 Mah. Wireless charging would also be included as part of the package, but we hope to see an improvement in the Wattage (just being optimistic). Currently, the OnePlus 8 Pro supports 30W Fast Wireless Charging , hoping it could improve to 40W in the OnePlu 8T. Oh, and also it would be launched with the 5G support which is obviously understood since it packs the Snapdragon 865+ chipset. It would also have Wifi 6 (6E), NFC, Dual Sim (nano),Bluetooth 5.1, aptX support and other typical sensors that are usually found on flagship phones.
Finally, coming down to the pricing - the OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro is expected to see a jump in the pricing compared to last year's OnePlus 7T or 7T Pro. The Pricing for the OnePlus 8T (128GB) model is expected to be $899 USD and for the OnePlus 8T Pro (128GB) model is expected to be $1099 USD. In India, the pricing however would be slightly different seeing how they have their major fan base over there. OnePlus 8T Price in India is expected to be Rs.47,999 for 128GB model and OnePlus 8T Pro Price in India is expected to be Rs.54,999 for 256GB model. Let me know what you expect in the OnePlus 8T or 8T Pro. The OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro is expected to launch in October,2020.
