Q4 is usually the most jam packed quarter that sees most number of launches in smartphones from brands all over the world. Over the past 2-3 years, the numbers have only increased and it's good thing and a bad thing. The consumer has so many choices to choose from, he gets confused and doesn't really find difference between any two. October 2020, the launches got pushed out a month or so because of the COVID19 situation. Nevertheless, smartphone manufacturers are marching ahead with many launches. Well what all are expected this month ? Let's get started !
1. iPhone 12 :
Common you would have seen this one coming ! As most people, I too am awaiting the launch of the iPhone 12 this year so much so that I don't want to be disappointed at launch. As per rumors and leaks, there are going to 4 models that will be launched - iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 , iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max. The Mini is supposedly the most affordable of all and has screen size of 5.4 inches but the Pro Max is the largest of all with screen size of 6.7 inches. I think Apple has understood it needs to grow its market and one of the easiest ways is to launch a cheaper model. All of them would support 5G which this year would be supplied by Qualcomm, so we wouldn't expect to see difference in performances across countries. With Apple A14 chip which we have already seen on iPad Air this year, the performance is expected to be top notch but ! ..but the displays would be still stuck at 60 Hz refresh rate! :( and there won't be any chargers included. and there won't be any other accessory in the box. Basically, the box will have the phone and few papers !
Launch Date : October 2nd Week. Price - Rs. 50,000 to 80,000
2. OnePlus 8T :
Next upon the Hype Wagon, is the much publicized OnePlus 8T. It's expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 865 (not the plus version) and there will be an additional camera making it a quad camera setup. With 120 Hz QHD+ AMOLED display this is expected to be one of the leading displays in the industry- some might say best in class! The next big thing is the 65W charger which is again great spec but has mixed reactions - mostly positive. Rest most of it is going to be more or less similar to the OnePlus 8 except for the price - which according to leaks is expected to be cheaper! Let's pray for that !
Launch Date : October 14th 2020. Price - Rs. 40,000 - Rs.43,000
3. Xiaomi Mi 10T, Mi 10T Lite, Mi 10T Pro:
This year marks the 10th year for Xiaomi and it has decided to make best use of it. Just few days back, it launched 3 new marvelous phones - Mi 10T, Mi 10T Lite and Mi 10T Pro. The 10T and 10T Pro have almost same specs except for the primary camera- the former has 64MP while the latter has 108MP. Both are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, with 144 Hz refresh rate ( most welcomed by all) LCD display ( slightly disappointed but still appreciate it) . The rear cameras take inspiration from the Vivo X50 Pro but unfortunately do not offer the gimbal setup. The Mi 10T Lite is a better offering which is the first phone to be launched with Snapdragon 750G chipset. It has 120 Hz refresh rate with LCD panel and slightly lesser resolution cameras with 48MP as primary. Now, here's the major spec - all of them support 5G!
Launch Date: Launched already. Price : Rs. 52,000 (Mi 10T Pro) , Rs. 34,000 (Mi 10T Lite)
4. Realme 7i :
I really think Realme should have come up with better naming for this one. They have already launched and advertised the Realme 7 and 7 Pro last month. Anyway, the 7i is a budget version of the Realme 7 with Snapdragon 662 chipset and 6.5 inches with 90 Hz refresh rate. It's expected to be under Rs. 15000 so don't expect 5G to be there. Design wise ,it's more or less the same as Realme 7 with slightly different shades.
Launch Date : October 7 . Price : Rs.15000
5. Vivo V20 :
Vivo is not going to miss out on the smartphone launches. Its expected to launch the V20 (again what's with this naming !) in the first week of October. It's again a budget offering with 6.44 inches screen 60 Hz FHD+ displahy and Snapdragon 720G chipset (slightly older one). The cameras are going to be the main focus and also the design seems refreshing. The cameras on the back are going to be 64MP + 8MP (ultra wide) +2 MP(Macro). The selfie shooter is going to be 44MP one.
Launch date : October first week. Price : Rs. 17,999
